As of 2011 an operator’s ticket is no longer required by Workplace Health and Safety Act for an individual when they organise excavator hire, front-end, or skid steer loader hire to name a few.
So, what do you need?
When it comes operating plant equipment and the law, the responsibility is that of the PCBU (person conducting a business or undertaking). In other words, an individual who wishes to operate an excavator to build a retaining wall on their private premises for example has the right to do so without holding any special licences or tickets. This also complies forsole traders or companies that have not previously required their employees to hold an operator’s ticket in the past can allow their employees to operate certain plant machinery to complete their contracted work, provided they deem their employees competent to operate said equipment and so long as a duty of care is taken as it is ultimately PCBU responsibility for the health and safety of all persons within the worksite.
